Come with us for a visit to a “real Jewel of the South.”
Day 1: We depart this morning for our drive south to Louisville where we will enjoy a riverfront sightseeing cruise aboard the Mary Miller Riverboat. Who likes picnics? Who likes riverboats? We think these go together in the summertime, and we’ll have a picnic out on the river! After our cruise we will depart for historic Bardstown, the second oldest town in Kentucky, with a Southern spirit that welcomes you to one of the Best Small Towns in America. We will check into our hotel and refresh for this evening. Tonight, we will enjoy dinner and then reserved seats under the stars for The Stephen Foster Story – Kentucky’s longest-running outdoor drama and official outdoor musical. This story celebrates the life of renowned American composer, Stephen Foster, with colorful period costumes, energetic choreography and over 50 of Foster’s most beloved & timeless classics, including Kentucky’s official state song “My Old Kentucky Home”. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved indoors. L, D
Day 2: After breakfast we will visit My Old Kentucky Home, the mansion centerpiece of a 1300-acre plantation completed in 1818 and the inspiration for the state song of Kentucky. Enjoy a guided tour and time to look around the grounds. We will also include a visit to the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral, the first Cathedral, in the United States, west of the Allegheny Mountains. St. Joseph’s was built to welcome pioneers and to serve their spiritual, physical and intellectual needs. You will have time to enjoy browsing along the main historic area of Bardstown with time to have lunch on your own and stopping by the boutiques of your choice along the way. We will depart this afternoon for our drive north, planning to arrive early this evening anxious to share our experiences in Bardstown with family and friends. B
