Travel with us to Washington DC where we will learn about the influence of our Founding Fathers’ faith on American History, while staying at the Gaylord National Resort, perched on the shores of the Potomac River. The Gaylord Resort is a perfect host for this amazing sightseeing experience!
Day 1: We will depart bright and early this morning for our drive to National Harbor, MD for our three-night stay at the Gaylord National Resort. Perched on the shores of the Potomac River and just minutes from downtown Washington, D.C., this stylish resort recently underwent a $64 million dollar renovation. Enjoy this evening acquainting yourself with the resort and surrounding waterfront area.
Day 2: After breakfast at the resort we will depart for a day of touring. Today we will tour the Washington National Cathedral and learn about the history, architecture, and purpose of the Cathedral that is “dedicated to serve as a house of prayer for all people and a spiritual home for the nation”. At the National Archives we will see many of the founding documents that represent the biblical ideals of the Founding Fathers. We will visit the National Mall and the world-renowned Smithsonian Museum Complex which includes the Museum of Natural History, Museum of American History, Air and Space Museum, just to name a few. Our dinner will be included tonight at a local restaurant before we meet our guide for an illuminated Monuments and Memorials Tour. Under a moonlit sky, experience the majestic views of our Nation’s renowned treasures, with stops along the way. See the World War II Memorial, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Vietnam Memorial and others. Return to the Gaylord National Resort after our tour. B, D
Day 3: After our included breakfast at the resort we will stop briefly for a photo opportunity at the White House. We will visit the U.S. Capitol (if available) before arriving at the Museum of the Bible containing six floors of exhibits and many ancient biblical artifacts. This afternoon we will include a tram tour of Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington is an impressive sight, with seemingly endless rows of simple white headstones, where soldiers and statemen alike are buried. You will see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and pay your respects at Kennedy’s eternal flame. On the grounds is also the Challenger Space Shuttle Memorial and more. The U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, also referred to as the Iwo Jima Memorial, is located just outside Arlington National Cemetery and it is dedicated to the U.S. Marines who have lost their lives in defense of our country since 1775. We will return to the Gaylord Resort where you will enjoy a free evening and dinner on your own tonight at the National Harbor. The waterfront area is a destination unlike any other. It is home to 160 stores, 40 restaurants, an iconic Capital Wheel and the best sunsets in the D.C. area. Trolley services regularly operate from the Gaylord to the area’s attractions. Day 4: Enjoy a final breakfast at the resort as we bid farewell to the National Harbor and Washington D.C. We will travel home with wonderful memories and renewed faith in our Founding Fathers and our country! B
